Dinner and a Diva: Rigoletto

Dinner and a Diva: Rigoletto

Join us and the Capitol City Opera Company singers on Tuesday, April 18th and Thursday, April 20th, at 6:15 pm, for Dinner and a Diva: a night of delicious food and performances from Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto. The work, Verdi’s sixteenth in the genre, is widely considered to be the first of the operatic masterpieces of Verdi’s middle-to-late career. Its tragic story revolves around the licentious Duke of Mantua, his hunch-backed court jester Rigoletto, and Rigoletto’s daughter Gilda. The opera’s original title, La maledizione (The Curse), refers to a curse placed on both the Duke and Rigoletto by a courtier whose daughter the Duke has seduced with Rigoletto’s encouragement. The curse comes to fruition when Gilda falls in love with the Duke and sacrifices her life to save him from the assassin hired by her father. Enjoy a four-course dinner with wine in between songs.

February 9, 2023 Gale Horton Gay 0 Comments Love is in the air, Valentine's Day, Valentine’s Day special

Love is in the air, and on Feb. 14 romance will be celebrated in traditional and wildly imaginative ways.
The history of Valentine’s Day—and the story of its patron saint—is shrouded in mystery, according to history.com “We do know that February has long been celebrated as a month of romance, and that St. Valentine’s Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition.”
While some romantics are experts in coming up with creative ways to demonstrate their love on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, others need help.

We’ve gathered a few ideas for our readers’ consideration and hope this helps to make this Valentine’s Day special.
