“In a Sicilian village it is Easter Sunday. Santuzza’s former lover Turiddu is in love with Lola, Alfio’s wife. Santuzza seeks revenge by telling Alfio of Lola’s unfaithfulness and he kills Turiddu in a fight, after the latter has left Santuzza in the charge of his mother. It is Easter morning in a Sicilian village. A sad, anxious girl, Santuzza, is looking for her lover Turridu, who betrayed her and went back to his former fiancée, Lola, who had meanwhile married the wealthy Alfio when he returned from the army. Santuzza tries in vain to win back her lover. Mad with jealousy, she tells Alfio, the cuckolded husband, about Lola and Turridu. At that point, Turridu’s fate is sealed. Alfio provokes him to a duel. After saying goodbye to his mother, Turridu leaves for his fatal meeting.”

“Porgy and Bess, dramatic folk opera in three acts by George Gershwin. Its English libretto was written by DuBose Heyward (with lyrics by Heyward and Ira Gershwin), based on Heyward’s novel Porgy (1925). The opera—which premiered at the Alvin Theatre in New York City on October 10, 1935—is considered to be the first great American opera. It contains many beloved musical numbers, including the arias ‘Summertime’ and ‘I Got Plenty o’ Nuttin’. Set in the 1930s in an African-American Charleston neighborhood known as Catfish Row, Porgy and Bess centers on the tragic love story of the cripple beggar Porgy and beautiful Bess, who longs to turn away from her former life as a prostitute and cocaine addict. After a murder, Bess’ abusive partner Crown flees, leaving her at the mercy of a disapproving community and tempted by the seductive drug dealer Sporting Life. Bess strikes up an unlikely relationship with Porgy and gradually finds acceptance on Catfish Row—until a hurricane and the return of Crown change everyone’s lives forever.”

“We witness the violent clash of two personalities who are complete opposites: in power, love and belief. In 1587, Maria Stuarda, Queen of Scotland, has been held prisoner for several years by her cousin Elisabetta, Queen of England. Roberto, Earl of Leicester, with whom Elisabetta is secretly in love, wants to help Maria, to whom he declares his love and proposes marriage to her. He advises Maria to be conciliatory towards her powerful cousin. But the two queens face off at a meeting whose violence leads Elisabetta to sign the death warrant for Maria, who has publicly insulted her. The cruelty of Elisabetta, devoured by jealousy, extends to demanding that Roberto attend her rival’s execution.”
