Dinner and a Diva: Tosca

Dinner and a Diva: Tosca

Our next Dinner and a Diva on Tuesday, February 20 and Wednesday, February 21 features Puccini's Tosca. Set in Rome in the summer of 1800, this melodrama is described on The Opera 101 website as "one of the most lethal of operas. None of the central characters make it to the end alive, hero or villain."  Tosca is a story of a beautiful opera singer in love with a painter and the jealous chief of police who wants her for himself. Although Tosca received indifferent reviews from critics when it premiered at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome on Jan. 14, 1900, it was an immediate success with the public.

Writing for theartsdesk.com, Stephen Walsh notes that "To this day the dramatic force of Tosca and its characters continues to fascinate both performers and audiences." Currently Tosca ranks #5 on the 2015/16 Operabase list of the world's most frequently performed operas.

So join us on either one of the two Dinner and a Diva evenings this month, and you'll hear Puccini at his dramatic best with soaring melodies, fiery and passionate duets, and heartbreaking arias sung by Cristina Bakhoum, soprano; Pedro Carreras, tenor; and Anthony Yezzi, bass-baritone; accompanied by Capitol City Opera's music director, Catherine Giel.

The dinner includes a sampling of premium hors d’ oeuvres, fresh salad, choice of two gourmet entrees, decadent dessert, hot coffee/tea, and two glasses of fine wine, for only $60 per person (tax included; gratuity separate). The performers from the Capitol City Opera Company sing between each course. The evening begins at 6:15 p.m. with a cash bar and hors d’oeuvres reception; dinner and performance start promptly at 7 p.m. Reservations are required. Please call 404-634-6268.
