Dinner and a Diva: Boar's Head Fest, Seating On Friday, December 15th

Our last Dinner and a Diva of the 2017 Season is the ever-popular, much-anticipated Boar's Head Feast. We still have spaces left for our Friday, December 15th special performance (Tuesday, December 19th and Wednesday, December 20th are already sold out). Experience the pageantry of traditional, costumed madrigal singing this holiday season. This is one of our most beloved events, so be sure to make your reservations now before we are full.

It's a 20+ year tradition! Capitol City Opera's Madrigal Singers will present an evening of traditional a cappella Christmas and holiday carols and songs from the Renaissance and Baroque periods plus a few contemporary surprises, all in beautiful period costume. Enjoy a three course meal with wine while we entertain you, pass around the wassail, and even present the traditional boar's head. This will definitely put you in the holiday spirit!

The dinner includes hors d’ oeuvres, salad, choice of two entrees, dessert, coffee/tea, and two glasses of wine, for only $60 per person (tax included; gratuity separate). The performers from theCapitol City Opera Company sing between each course. Closed for Christmas: December 24th through lunch on December 26

To allow our staff some time off to enjoy the holidays with their family and friends, we will be closed on Christmas Eve (all day), Sunday, December 24th, and Christmas, Monday, December 25th, as well as closed for lunch on Tuesday, December 26. We will reopen for dinner on Tuesday, December 26 at 4p.m. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

Second Dinner and a Diva: La boheme date added on Nov. 28

Now that the November 21st program is SOLD OUT, a second date has been added. So make your plans now to join us on Tuesday, November 28th, to hear highlights from one of the most popular operas ever written--Giacomo Puccini’s masterpiece La bohème. First performed on February 1, 1896 at Teatro Regio, Turin, it was conducted by a young Aturo Toscanini. Fifty years later, Toscanini conducted a radio performance of La bohème with the NBC Symphony Orchestra. The 1946 performance was eventually released on vinyl record and compact disc, making it the only recording of a Puccini opera by its original conductor. 

La bohème’s music and storyline never fail to pull at your heartstrings. Set in a snowy Paris, it's the story of love in its greatest form, as six young, penniless artists who are full of idealism come face-to-face with the harsh realities of life. Some may remember that the Broadway musical Rent is loosely based on La bohème’s story line. And music from this timeless classic was used in the 1987 American romantic comedy film, Moonstruck.

Oktoberfest Dinner Menu Served Through October 28th

Oktoberfest 2017 is coming up fast! Celebrate with our special holiday dinner menu served every evening from Friday, September 29th through Saturday, October 28th. The special holiday dinner menu, available only from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., features authentic, traditional German and Bavarian appetizer, entrees, sides, and dessert. Prices range from $9 to $30. Pair your meal with a frosty mug of holiday brew, too. Prost!

Dinner and a Diva: Lucia di Lammermoor on October 17

Our next Dinner and a Diva, on Tuesday, October 17, will bring you highlights from Donizetti's darkly beautiful work Lucia di Lammermoor. The program will include the well-known sextet "Chi mi frena in tal momento," as well as other haunting and beautiful compositions which make this opera a jewel in the Italian opera repertoire.

In addition to Engel, the program features one of our largest casts for the year. It includes Jennifer Alynn-Perri as Lucia; Gus Godbee as Enrico; Yilam Sartorio as Edgardo; Amanda Perera as Alicia; Pedro Carreras as Normanno; and Ivan Segovia as Raimondo. The Company’s music director, Catherine Giel, will be the accompanist. 

Written in 1835 and set in Scotland, this opera focuses on an emotionally fragile Lucia who is caught in a feud between her family and an opposing family. Forced to abandon her true love to marry someone chosen for her, she goes mad (one of opera's most famous ‘mad scenes’) and takes violent revenge on her new husband.
